Job Summary:
JOB SUMMARY
The Director for Continuing Professional Development at VUMC oversees the Office for Continuous Professional Development (CPD) at VUMC working closely with the Vice President of CPD.

The Office for Continuous Professional Development has four main divisions of activity:
1. The Division of Continuing Medical Education (CME): The mission of the CME program at Vanderbilt University Medical Center is to offer learning opportunities to physicians and other members of the health care team that will enable them to provide the very best possible care to their patients and perform optimally in their other professional responsibilities as measured by improvements in competence, performance, and patient health status. VUMC is accredited by the ACCME for 4 years. The CME division continues to expand the number of activities offering CME credit with approximately 600 activities per year. VUMC is among the larger providers of CME at academic medical centers nationally. Additionally, VUMC is certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties as a Multi-Specialty Portfolio Program which allows the VUMC Maintenance of Certification Portfolio Program to support physician efforts to improve patient care through process improvement activities. The Director for CPD works closely with CME team members and the Vice President for CPD to oversee the CME mission.
2. The Educator Development Program (EDP): The mission of the Educator Development Program (EDP) is to provide educator development initiatives across the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine (VUSM) learning continuum, serving students, residents, fellows, and faculty through Undergraduate Medical Education(UME), Graduate Medical Education (GME), and faculty development. The Director for CPD works with the Director of EDP to support the EDP mission.
3. The Academy for Excellence in Education (AEE): The mission of the Academy for Excellence in Education is to enhance the educational environment in the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and the Vanderbilt University Medical Center by advocating for the development, support, and recognition of dedicated educators, by sustaining a community of educators, and by fostering educational excellence, innovation, leadership, and scholarship. The Director for CPD works with the Director of AEE to support the AEE mission.
4. The Center for Advanced Mobile Healthcare Learning (CAMHL): Develops and distributes CAMHL's web-based learning application to respond to the learning needs of individual and teams of health care professional in response to emerging and ongoing challenges in providing the best possible care to patients. The Director for CPD works with the Director of CAMHL to support the CAMHL mission.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. CME Application Review-responsible for new intake tracking, review, and approval. Ensure all ACCME Standards are met.
2. Disclosures and Compliance-review disclosures and work with staff to mitigate potential disclosure conflicts of interest, review and reconcile compliance reporting.
3. Renewals-communicate reminders for CME activity submissions, approvals and set up.
4. Reaccreditation and Annual Reporting-serve as the main contact for ACCME, participate in the reaccreditation process, update policies and closeout annual reporting.
5. Fiscal Responsibilities-review and approve invoices, expenses and requests for equipment and supplies. Create and track annual budget.
6. Customer Service-respond to application inquiries by email and phone.
7. CPD Communication and Resource Development
8. External Team Collaborations-update resources, create new resources for education planning, communicate with stakeholders and oversee quarterly newsletter.
9. Team Oversight-Organize strategic planning and development sessions, keep team informed on updates, department and team engagement, training.
10. Personnel Management-oversee staff performance, schedule 1:1 meetings with team.
11. Executive leadership-attend quarterly leadership meetings and share information with team members.
12. Scholarship and Professional Development-Membership in the Society for Academic Continuing Medical Education (SACME), participate in professional meetings such as the SACME and ACCME annual meetings, education research and other professional development.
13. Technology-Provide input and oversight on technology changes. Maintain an understanding of the technology infrastructure needed to run a CME program. Foster relationships with technology vendors.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises employee(s). Incumbent carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding employees and providing coaching for employee performance improvement when needed; addressing and resolving issues.
