This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements: Citizenship. Be a Citizen of the United States. Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with 38 U.S.C. § 7407(a). English Language Proficiency. Physicians appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. § 7402(d) and 7407(d). Licensure and Registration. Physicians must possess a current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a state, territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the state of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. Residency Training. Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), OR Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), OR Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five ears of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Physical Requirements: The incumbent must be able to perform all activities of the position without restriction. This position may involve standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, lifting, and turning. The work may involve going up and down flights of stairs. ["The Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) Psychiatrist is expected to provide health care services to veteran patients enrolled at the Fayetteville Health Care Center located at 7300 Raeford Road . Clinical Services generally will be needed from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (excluding Federal holidays and leave), except when providing on-call coverage. PCMHI psychiatrist will work closely with members of the Primary Care PACT Team to facilitate mental health treatment of patients in Primary Care and will accept patient warm hand-offs from PACT Team providers to initiate evaluation and treatment of psychiatric conditions and to make referrals for ancillary mental health services within the Behavioral Health Service Line (BHSL), such as psychological evaluation, substance abuse treatment, psychotherapy for victims of sexual and/or combat-related trauma, and other conditions anticipated to respond to non-pharmacological interventions. Clinical duties will include but are not limited to performing initial psychiatric evaluations, conducting medication management clinics, referring to other specialties or subspecialties, and providing appropriate treatment and management for general psychiatric problems on a predominantly outpatient basis. Conditions requiring specialty care will be referred to specialty clinics within the VA Healthcare System. Physicians will not refer the patient to outside providers unless reviewed for eligibility by Health Administration Staff and appropriately authorized. Performs psychiatric evaluations within the primary care setting for veteran population with a vast array of mental health problems including personality, emotional adjustment, or mental illness and may have psychosocial issues such as homelessness, unemployment, and poor family support network. Obtain appropriate consultation from specialists/ancillary services and communicate pertinent medical information to other health care providers/institutions and to patients. Enter all diagnostic and treatment information, and related reports into the computerized patient record system (CPRS) on the day of the visit. Documentation of health care provided, including all physician orders, must satisfy Department of Veteran Affairs and local VAMC policies/procedures, as well as meet external accreditation agency requirements for safe delivery of patient care. The physician must possess computer skills to access the CPRS as utilized by the VAMC. Orientation to CPRS will be provided by the VAMC. To provide psychiatric consultation to other services at the VAMC and associated community clinics when required. Performs other directly related clinical duties as assigned.
