The University of Pikeville and Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (KYCOM) is seeking an Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs. KYCOM is ranked #2 by US News and World Report in medical schools with the most graduates practicing in rural areas and #2 in medical schools with the most graduates in practicing primary care. With nearly 550 students, faculty and staff are committed to teaching and learning, innovation, and the success of medical education. Under the supervision, and directly reporting to the Dean of KYCOM, this person has overall responsibility for the oversight of the third- and fourth-year clinical curriculum.

Responsibilities: 

Responsible for the overall administrative management of the Office of Clinical Affairs, including but not limited to:

1. Oversees and manages the Director of Clinical Rotation and assures yearly evaluations are performed.
2. Prepares and recommends a Clinical Affairs budget to the Dean.
3. Develops and evaluates clinical curriculum for years 3 and 4 and assures the integration of osteopathic principles and practices throughout the clinical rotations.
   1. Develops and maintains regional clinical sites for core, selective and elective rotations.
   2. Develops, evaluates, and manages clinical rotations to assure the highest quality clinical experiences for all third- and fourth-year students.
   3. Monitors the progress of all students on clinical rotations assuring progress toward graduation and recommends disciplinary action to the Promotion & Matriculation Committee when necessary.
   4. Develops and monitors remediation plans for third- and fourth-year students with academic deficiencies.
   5. Evaluates and makes decisions on all special rotation requests.
   6. Reviews all clinical affiliation agreements for recommendation to the Dean.
   7. Recommends to the Dean all appointments of adjunct clinical faculty.
   8. Maintains continuous communications with third- and fourth-year medical students.
4. Teaches in the clinical sciences courses as appropriate.
5. Responsible for materials and documentation required for accreditation.
6. Mentors’ clinical faculty to promote professional growth and development.
7. Provides counseling, mentoring, and guidance to students monthly.
8. Assures appropriate delivery of faculty development program for off campus clinical faculty.
9. Serves on assigned KYCOM and UPIKE committees.
10. Assists in the selection of students to attend KYCOM.
11. Establishes mutual respect with faculty, staff, and students through effective and timely communication including expectations, deadlines, and feedback on work completed.
12. Serves on assigned Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (KYCOM), Kentucky College of Optometry (KYCO), and University of Pikeville (UPIKE) committees.
13. Responsible for other duties as assigned by the KYCOM Dean and university administration.
14. Attends Commencement, White Coat Ceremony, new student orientation, University of Pikeville Opening Convocation, and other events as required.

Relationships:

The position requires daily professional contact with faculty, staff, supervisor, campus departments, and students. These relationships are maintained through e-mail, telephone, and person-to-person contact.

Education/Credentials:

• Earned DO degree from American Osteopathic Association - COCA accredited college of osteopathic medicine or MD degree from LCME accrediting body.
• Board Certified by an AOA-BOS or ABMS member board.
• Current and unrestricted medical license issued by the Kentucky Board of Medical License (KBML).
• Current and unrestricted DEA certificate.
• Preferred experience in academic medicine.

Experience: 

• Previous experience in academic medicine, preferably at a college of osteopathic medicine.
• Proven leadership and management qualifications.

• Must be able to learn and utilize Learning Management Systems such as Canvas, and the University's online platform and systems.
• Must demonstrate cooperation, courtesy, and consideration when working with the professional community, KYCOM, KYCO, and UPIKE communities, faculty, students, and the public.
• Must be able to work independently and as a member of a team.
