About University of Pikeville Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine
The University of Pikeville Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine(KYCOM) is the 19th college of osteopathic medicine in the United States. It stands as the only medical school that is part of a private liberal arts college.
KYCOM is supported by community leaders whose objective is to improve the delivery of health care to the people in the underserved areas of Appalachia. Founded by a group of Eastern Kentucky businessmen, led by G. Chad Perry, III, of Paintsville, Ky., PCSOM has received substantial support from community leaders, government agencies, foundations and corporations. This support culminated in the matriculation of the inaugural class of KYCOM, the Class of 2001, on Sept. 11, 1997.
“The mission of KYCOM is to provide men and women with an osteopathic medical education that emphasizes primary care, encourages research, promotes lifelong scholarly activity, and produces graduates who are committed to serving the health care needs of communities in Eastern Kentucky and other Appalachian regions.”
A-OPTIC is an alliance of osteopathic educational institutions, schools and hospitals. Our mission is to create and maintain osteopathic postgraduate training o...pportunities in under-served areas of the United States. We are a link between colleges of osteopathic medicine and osteopathic post-graduate training programs. We want osteopathic students to develop their osteopathic undergraduate training in osteopathic postgraduate programs. This will ensure the prosperity of the profession and the health of human beings.
