Attending Physiatrist, Neuro-rehabilitation Job Description

Summary:

The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine is seeking a Physiatrist specializing in neurorehabilitation to join our growing program. This individual will be expected to lead and develop a neurorehab program while providing neurorehabilitation physiatry services, including the performance of all consultations, procedures, and other related services required by patients. This position will report directly to the Director of Rehabilitation Medicine.

Responsibilities:

• • Serve as the primary inpatient attending for neurological cases referred for acute inpatient rehabilitation.
  • Supervise team and family conferences as required.
  • Develop an outpatient neuro-rehabilitation practice that addresses the rehabilitative needs of the neurologic patient population. Your clinical practice should include the evaluation and rehabilitative care of patients with impairments and disabilities resulting from stroke, acquired brain injury, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, adult cerebral palsy, and other acute and chronic neurologic diseases.
  • Collaborate with the departments of neurosurgery and neurology to implement a comprehensive spasticity management program.
  • Provide neuro-rehabilitation consultative services for WMCHealth acute care services.
  • Participate in weeknight and weekend on-call coverage of the Inpatient rehab Unit on a rotating basis in general proportion to the number of physicians in the department
  • Perform timely reviews and determinations of admission prescreens with the admissions team as required.
  • Attend Department grand rounds, journal clubs, and faculty meeting as required.
  • Participate in Department of Rehabilitation Medicine committees as requested.

Other:

• Provide resident and other teaching services as reasonably required by the Director for residents and/or fellows.
• Work with the Graduate Medical Education Office to maintain full accreditation for, and work diligently to develop and improve, the residency program(s) as appropriate to Neuro-rehabilitation.
• Participate in the academic training of medical and other students and participate on NYMC or other academic affiliate committees as required, so as to maintain positive relationships with NYMC and any other Network academic affiliate.
