The Department of Family Medicine (the Department) of the Keck School of Medicine (KSOM) seeks a full-time physician to join the practice and serve as the next Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs. Providing leadership to the clinical work of the Department, the Vice Chair will join a top-tier medical school committed to educational innovation and community-focused healthcare at a time of great excitement and forward momentum.
The Department provides high quality healthcare to people across generations and over lifetimes, and is home to research, training, and advocacy centers on the USC Health Sciences Campus and in the community. The Department is committed to health equity, and this is illustrated across the Keck Family Medicine practice, Student Health services, and Street Medicine. The Vice Chair will support the continued excellence in clinical care that is evidence-based and person-centered with an emphasis on continuity and access, in the context of a complex multispecialty academic health system that prides itself on taking on the toughest cases. The Department aims to enhance the quality of life for underserved and vulnerable patients, and is committed to training the next generation of primary health care clinicians, from medical students and physician assistant students to Family Medicine residents. Combining education, patient advocacy, and evidence-based research, the Department strives to lead the way in advancing family medicine and geriatrics.
The Vice Chair will play a critical leadership role at a time of tremendous growth in both the Department and KSOM, working to optimize the current suite of clinical services. The Vice Chair will build upon a legacy of community healthcare based in a century-old affiliation with Los Angeles’s largest public hospital to drive a vision of expanded, innovative primary care delivery. The Vice Chair will work collaboratively toward impact in complex, adaptive systems by recruiting and retaining world-class clinical faculty, enhancing the framework for seamless clinical operations, and integrating with the research and education components of the Department.
There are currently 64 front-line clinicians across the Department. Included in this number are 35 physicians, 22 Advanced Practice Providers, three Behavioral Health providers, and four community health workers/nurses. Faculty practice providers serve over 3,000 patients and student health serves over 4,000 patients per month in person or via telemedicine. Headquartered at Keck School of Medicine in Los Angeles, the faculty practice also provides care to the following communities: Downtown Los Angeles, Pasadena, Arcadia, and Glendale. The Vice Chair will work very closely with clinic managers and operational leaders to develop strategically aligned goals to increase productivity, enhance quality measures, and grow the Department’s footprint in the community. Capitalizing on KSOM’s extraordinary strengths, entrepreneurial spirit, and unparalleled location in Los Angeles, the Vice Chair will be key to nurturing a sustainable culture and instilling key values of social justice and excellence of practice in the next generation of family medicine clinician leaders.
