The Division of General Academic Pediatrics at the UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and the Department of Pediatrics, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is recruiting a Physician-Investigator at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level who is dedicated to advancing clinical, health services, or translational research in pediatric primary care.  

We are seeking general pediatricians specifically devoted to a research career as independent physician investigators engaged in clinical research, health services research, or translational research. 

Our 30 general academic pediatrics division faculty include a core of 12 clinician-investigators who excel in primary care research. 
•    One major focus of our division’s research is on the improved diagnosis and treatment of common pediatric infections, including otitis media, sinusitis, urinary tract infections, and pneumonia, through research conducted in the GAP Clinical Trials Unit. 
•    Our division also hosts the Pittsburgh Vaccine Trials Unit, which has led local trials related to covid-19 vaccination, influenza vaccination, and meningococcal vaccination. 
•    GAP researchers in the Translational Science Unit  are also investigating host-pathogen interactions during common pediatric infections such as UTIs, acute sinusitis, acute otitis media, and COVID-19. For more information on the Translational Science Unit, visit here: 
•    Additional faculty focus on advancing pediatric health care system access, effectiveness, family-centeredness, and equity, with one example here. 
•    Additional faculty interests include language justice, community-based participatory research, positive parenting, supporting parents with opioid use disorder, clinical informatics, telemedicine and telehealth, violence prevention, chronic disease management, and maternal child health. 
Faculty research programs are funded by a range of sources including NIH (NIAID, NICHD, NINR), federal (PCORI, HRSA), industry, and foundations. Four early career faculty are currently supported by NIH or foundational career development awards. Our division hosts a HRSA NRSA T32 which supports our vibrant General Academic Pediatrics Research Fellowship.  

We are the primary site for continuity clinic for residents at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Named to the Top 10 Honor Roll on U.S. News & World report’s 2020-2021 list of “American’s Best Children’s Hospitals,” UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh is a 315-bed free-standing children’s hospital located in the thriving Lawrenceville section of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh cares for over 80% of all hospitalized children (and over 90% of all hospitalized children under the age of 12) in our region, a catchment area that includes Western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio, Northern West Virginia, and Southwestern New York.
