Overview This person should have an informed vision of what skills, expertise and knowledge will be needed by the Osteopathic Physician of the future and the curriculum needed to provide these. The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs will need good interpersonal skills to successfully work with a variety of professionals in this process. While responsibility is for the entire four-year curriculum, he or she will have senior administrative collaborators in Associate Dean of Pre-Clinical Education and Associate Dean of Clinical Education so they can focus on their area of responsibility.
Lead curricular design, analysis, and improvement
Oversee the quality and improvement of the pre?clinical and clinical educational programs to assure their effectiveness
Chair the Curriculum Committee
Communicate with other Touro COM campuses on curriculum development issues, course delivery, exam policies, faculty development
Develop the annual academic calendar and course schedules
Manage the Board Preparation and Performance resources and indicators
Follow, accomplish, and report on Strategic Planning goals relevant to the curriculum
Maintain the COM’s compliance with program accreditation standards
Responsible for oversight and evaluation of the Curriculum Director, the Director of Enrollment Management and Student Success, and the Administrative Coordinator
Collaborate with COM Departments on curriculum delivery, improvement, development, and assessment
Represent the COM in the absence of the Dean and Senior Associate Dean, or as requested by them
Other job duties as assigned by Dean/Supervisor
Supervises the Curriculum Director, the Director of Enrollment Management and Student Success, Administrative Coordinator, others as determined by the Dean or supervisor.
Qualifications Possess a doctoral degree in a health professional education related field such as DO, MD, PhD, EdD, or have a minimum of 10 years of work experience in the field of Academic Medicine. Preference may be given to DOs and other physicians with primary care clinical experience and individuals with significant involvement with medical school curriculum.
Strong interpersonal skills and enthusiasm to contribute to faculty growth and development
Strong knowledge base in medical education curriculum development
Familiarity with COMLEX and USMLE Board exams
Strong oral and written communication skills
Experience with medical school accreditation and reporting
