This Clinical Trials Specialist position is for the Vanderbilt Department of Emergency Medicine Research Division through the Center for Emergency Care and Innovation (CERI). This position will be part of a Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) funded Merit award (IIR-19-134) that seeks to improve the quality of prescribing antibiotics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in the emergency department, urgent care clinics, and primary care settings. Clinical Trials Specialist will also provide regulatory and administrative support to CERI.
As part of the VA Merit award, the Clinical Trials Specialist position will be responsible for maintaining the regulatory documents and VA Institutional Review Board (VA IRB) submissions associated with this project, working closely with our research team and the other study staff at the VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS). This will include (but is not limited to): working with REDCap, Excel, and other database programs as appropriate; reviewing and organizing regulatory documentation for completeness.
The Clinical Trials Specialist will collaborate with fellow CERI team members to provide regulatory and administrative support. This will include (but is not limited to): VA IRB and VUMC IRB submissions, invoice creation for sponsors and subawards, research data verification and reconciliations.

Vanderbilt's Department of Emergency Medicine is a leader in clinical care, education, and research. Our combined emergency departments see over 130,000 patients annually. We are the only adult and pediatric Level 1 trauma center in middle Tennessee. Our Chairman and Residency Director make education their number 1 priority by teaching a morning conference 5 days a week, 52 weeks per year in addition to directing the residency's five required hours of didactices each week. Every faculty member and upper level resident views excellent teaching as part of his or her responsibilities.
All of us at Vanderbilt believe in creating a positive learning environment both in the classroom and at the bedside. More than 60 faculty members, each with his or her own niche and many of whom are renowned educators, create an atmosphere of ever increasing excellence in education in a relaxed but challenging environment. Our fourth year medical student rotation is the highest rated required clinical rotation in the medical school. Numerous faculty are research leaders in the field of emergency medicine, several of whom are conducting NIH-sponsored research.
