Deputy Chief of Ambulatory Care/Primary Care: This is a key leadership role with the ACOS to ensure efficient operations, high quality veteran care and innovations in quality and patient safety. Deputy Chief of Ambulatory Care/Primary Care works in a key leadership role with the Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS) to ensure high quality Whole Health Veteran care, efficient clinical operations, , promote innovations in quality and patient safety, and support staff in transformative change initiatives. In addition to broad oversight of operations across the Service, the Deputy Chief, also referred to as the Deputy ACOS, is directly responsible for day to day operations of Occupational Health, Dermatology, Virtual Health programs, and other programs/activities as deemed appropriate. This position is supervisory, with no less than two section chiefs, Specialty Care providers, and/or nurse managers reporting directly to the Deputy ACOS. The Deputy ACOS also works collaboratively with the ACOS to develop strategies to support Primary Care, to lead performance improvement and quality initiatives and to provide guidance and oversight in the day-to-day operations of all Ambulatory Care clinics in VA New Jersey's two medical centers and nine community-based outpatient clinics. Priority initiatives include expansion of video encounters and creation of innovative strategies to meet the prevention needs of Veterans during the COVID Pandemic. The Deputy ACOS acts on behalf of the ACOS to represent the service during internal administrative discussions as well as during external surveys. In the absence of the ACOS, the Deputy ACOS serves as the Ambulatory Care representative on the Peer Review, Executive Committee of the Medical Staff, and Credentialing/Privileging committees. In addition to administrative duties, the Deputy ACOS maintains an active Primary Care clinical practice managing a primary care patient panel within a Patient-Aligned-Care-Team. The position includes approximately 20% clinical time. The VA New Jersey Ambulatory Care Service is affiliated with Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and the Deputy ACOS position includes the opportunity for an academic faculty appointment and medical student and resident teaching. VHA also offers a number of excellent opportunities for additional leadership training and career advancement. An ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of Primary Care leadership experience Qualifications: Board certified Primary Care Physician (Internal Medicine or Family Medicine) with Primary Care leadership experience, and excellent communication skills.
