School of Medicine Leadership Position Associate Dean for Clinical Medical Education

The University of California, Riverside (UCR) School of Medicine invites applications for the position of Associate Dean for Clinical Medical Education (ADCME). The incumbent will have a concurrent academic appointment in an appropriate department in the School of Medicine and participate in teaching and research or creative activities. Successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to work successfully with and benefit a diverse student body.
The successful applicant must qualify for an academic appointment in Professor of Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical series at the associate or full professor ranks, as well as demonstrated service related to medical student affairs and/or medical education. The ADCME will be responsible for the integrity of the training programs; both from a quantity and a quality perspective. We are seeking to recruit a candidate with additional skills and efforts in providing a consistent and comparable education to all individuals at multiple training sites; identifying the learners that assimilate skills, knowledge, or behaviors at sub-standard rates and developing remediable actions that result in measured outcomes similar to the goals of the program. The successful candidate for the ADCME will work closely with the Senior Associate Dean for Education and will be responsible for curricular development and management, faculty development and education.
The ADCME provides leadership to a cadre of Clerkship Directors, Content Specialists and Clerkship Coordinators that work at nine hospitals and dozens of outpatient sites to provide training that meet the educational criteria. The successful candidate will also work with the Director of Faculty Development, Longitudinal Ambulatory Care Experience (LACE) team, and the legal team to maintain the critical relationships with our outpatient and inpatient partners. The ADCME will perform yearly reviews of our progress towards meeting stated goals, as well as perform episodic reviews to effect continuous quality improvement on an ongoing and defined basis. Such data will be reported periodically to the Medical Education Committee (MEC). The ADCME will also report bi-annual updates to the MEC and to the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) officer on matters of curriculum. The ADCME will provide leadership to the Clerkship Directors in matters of student grading, progress, and curricular integrity; will work with the Department of Assessment and Evaluation to evaluate actual outcomes, and with the SADME to establish desired outcomes.

The successful candidate must possess an M.D. or equivalent degree, and maintain Board Certification in a clinical specialty and be required to be a regular member of the UCR Health medical group. The
candidate must retain university-quality skills and clinical judgement. Must be available to teach and mentor learners in both UME and GME. The total time available for clinical duties will be negotiated with the department Chair and the Sr. Associate Dean, Medical Education. The successful candidate will also be expected to show a record of research or scholarly activities appropriate for the academic appointments in Professor of Clinical X or Health Sciences Clinical series. Finally, the candidate must demonstrate appropriate administrative experience and a proven record of academic, and administrative leadership qualities.
