JOB TITLE:Chemical Dependency Counselor LOCATION: Marworth DEPARTMENT:Counseling WORK SCHEDULE: Days WORK TYPE: Full time
JOB SUMMARY: Functions as primary care manager, providing chemical dependency services to patients and their families in accordance with established facility policies and professional standards.
Reports to Director of Counseling Programs/Counseling Coordinator.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: Demonstrated knowledge of the disease of alcoholism/chemical dependency and treatment in a recovery care setting.
Demonstrated working knowledge of Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and Al-Anon.
Demonstrated flexibility and ability to work within a team structure.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Preferred Master’s Degree or above from an accredited college with a major in chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling, nursing (with a clinical specialty in the human services) or other related field which includes a practicum in a health or human service agency, preferably in a drug and alcohol setting. If the practicum did not take place in a drug and alcohol setting, the individual’s written training plan shall specifically address a plan to achieve counseling competency in chemical dependency issues.
A Bachelor’s Degree required from an accredited college with a major in chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling, nursing (with a clinical specialty in the human services) or other related field and 1 year of clinical experience (a minimum of 1,820 hours) in a health or human service agency, preferably in a drug and alcohol setting. If a person’s experience did not take place in a drug and alcohol setting, the individual’s written training plan shall specifically address a plan to achieve counseling competency in chemical dependency issues.
The degree must meet the requirements of the State of Pennsylvania Division of Drug and Alcohol Programs.
Preferred internship in alcoholism/chemical dependency or equivalent experience.
One or more years of experience in an alcoholism/chemical dependency inpatient/outpatient program preferred, as well as working towards CADC preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is typically performed in a clinical setting.
