The Student Wellness Counselor is a leadership position and will be responsible for focusing on student success through development and implementation of primary prevention along with the intervention process for addressing mental wellness and wellness programming for Arkansas Colleges of Health Education students. This position will work in the educational setting to address the process for supporting an environment of wellness, as well as, supporting a process for mental health intervention and training of campus and community members. This position will work closely with the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs and Wellness in the development of campus-wide wellness initiatives and wellness programming in areas such as resiliency, mindfulness and empathy practices and skill building. This position will also work with student organizations and ACHE student academies on wellness initiatives. This position must have the ability and clinical credentials to work in a clinic setting part time with students and community for individual counseling. Additionally, this position will work collaboratively with key personnel in Student Services in planning and coordinating effective and appropriate wellness programming for students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Focus on student success through development, implementation, and tracking of the student wellness programming, including wellness initiatives and activities
Responsible for in-house primary prevention counseling and distance counseling as needed for students on clinical rotations.
Must have credentials to provide off-site clinical counseling at the ACHE sponsored clinic 1-2 days/wk. This position will also provide referrals for additional concentrated mental health services as needed.
Provide direct student interventions for students dealing with cognitive, social, interpersonal communication skills or emotional behaviors which interfere with their success in the preclinical and clinical years
Provide guidance and leadership for Student Academies and student organizations to encourage student wellness activities and monitor effectiveness.
Provide individual and group counseling to students in the educational environment
Serve as an active member of ACHE’s CARE team
Work to support the ADA process and serve on the ADA committee as needed
Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff, and other constituent groups in the support of student success
Effectively and regularly collaborate with Academic Affairs, Academic Counseling and Study Services staff for effective and appropriate campus programming for students, campus community and collaborative outreach with the greater community.
Evening and weekend hours may be required
Minimal travel may be required
Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
Education and Experience
Master’s in counseling, social work, or psychology with special training in guidance counseling,
Must have or be eligible to obtain Arkansas license (LCSW, license professional counselor, etc.)
Ability and credentials appropriate to work in a clinic setting part-time
Experience in education or social work
Experience working with college/graduate students
Must have a passion for student success
Outstanding interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbally
Ability to express empathy while maintaining professional ethical standards
Exceptional writing and analytical skills
Master’s in counseling
Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in higher education or health professions student counseling environments
Prior work with health professions graduate students
Demonstrated supervisory experience
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities
Demonstrate proficiency in computer skills, i.e. Microsoft Office.
Display professionalism for the college in all communication and interaction.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy.
Ability to prioritize and organize numerous and varied assignments.
