JOB TITLE: Recreational Therapy Assistant LOCATION: LIFE Geisinger Kulpmont DEPARTMENT: Community Health Services, LIFE Geisinger WORK SCHEDULE: Days WORK TYPE: Full Time
JOB SUMMARY: Works under the direction and supervision of Recreation Therapist to create, implement, lead and adapt activities to ensure LIFE participants have a positive experience in group and individual activities. Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of Geisinger Health System in its efforts to provide quality service and patient satisfaction. Reports to the Recreation Therapist, LIFE Geisinger.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: PATIENT RIGHTS-Knowledge of principles and practices associated with the rights and responsibilities of patients and caregivers. PATIENT SAFETY-Knowledge of the risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment, and the ability to take steps to reduce these risks. THERAPEUTIC CARE-Knowledge of and ability to provide therapeutic care for patients and to monitor patients' reactions during and after physical/occupational therapy. Responds to emergent situations by applying appropriate measures. TEAM PLAYER-Must be able to work and communicate effectively in a team environment. COMPUTER SKILLS-Demonstrates basic navigation in a windows environment, and passwords and security. Accesses the internet, uses basic browser functionality, and understands policy on Internet usage. Demonstrates the ability to compose, send and read emails, understands email functionality and conventions related to replying. COMMUNICATION-Demonstrates oral, written, and electronic communication skills.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: HS Diploma or GED required Minimum 1 year of experience working with the frail or elderly required. Two years experience working in a social or recreational program in long term care setting preferred. Arts music and craft experience essential.
