Position Summary

The Attending Physician VII – Behavioral Health is a physician leader who provides clinical guidance and expertise to administer the requirements for the integrated behavioral health implementation and provide direct patient care within Ambulatory Community Health Network (ACHN) and Cook County Health & Hospitals System (CCHHS) partner site(s).

 

Ty pical Duties

·          Provides four (4) sessions of direct clinical care in CCHHS medication assisted treatment (MAT) clinics per week.

·          Provides two (2) clinical mentoring sessions for CCHHS medical providers per week.

·          Rounds on participating patients at MAT clinics sites, twice monthly to monitor program progress.

·          Provides monthly training sessions for CCHHS providers, nurses, medical assistants, and recovery coaches.

·          Provides public health and evaluation technical assistance to system-wide CCHHS MAT program and to MAT Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) collaborative partners and clinical care partner sites.

·          Visits participating clinics routinely.

·          Develops and implements clinical practice policies and procedures for MAT clinic expansion and referral mechanisms.

·          Develops and implements policies/procedures for integration of MAT into primary care ACHN sites.

·          Facilities the training of physicians to become MAT certified.

·          Provides monthly progress reports to the Chair of the Department of Family & Community Medicine (Chair).

·          Assists with ongoing strategic planning regarding opportunities for Cook County Department of Public Health partnership around addiction and behavioral health.

·          Assists and supports engagement with the Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (ECHO) Integrated Behavioral Health learning collaborative by attending meetings and providing reports to Chair regarding opportunities for engagement and alignment.

·         Develops and provides quarterly report metrics for Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT), MAT integration and naloxone expansion within ACHN sites and system wide, including County Care data-derived metrics.   Recommends quality improvement around targets not achieved.


   

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy Medicine (D.O.) from an accredited college or university

  • Illinois physician and surgeon license or eligibility to obtain license two weeks prior to hire date

  • Illinois and Federal controlled substance license or eligibility to obtain license two weeks prior to hire date

  • Board eligibility or certification in a primary care specialty Family Medicine or Preventative Medicine.  Must achieve board certification within two years of hire

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) year of experience providing medical care to underserved populations

  • One (1) year of experience with electronic medical record documentation

  • Master's degree in Public Health or a related graduate program

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

  •             Comprehensive knowledge of Primary Care Behavioral Health Integration, with a specific focus on addiction treatment and related support services

  •             Knowledge of and the ability to develop and help lead program development, service expansion, quality assurance and performance improvement programs related to behavioral health integration

  • Knowledge of quality assurance principles and guidelines

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel

  •             Knowledge of ACGME requirements; ability to precept residents and teach health care professional students

  •             Knowledge of collaborative/supervisory agreement requirements for advanced practice providers

  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with clinical documentation requirements

  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with accreditation and regulatory agency requirements

  • Demonstrated attitudes, knowledge, and skills necessary to work respectfully and effectively with patients and staff in a culturally diverse work environment

  • Demonstrate attention to detail, accuracy and precision in decision making

  • Strong interpersonal and empathy skills

  •             Demonstrate analytical and organizational, problem-solving, critical thinking, and conflict management/resolution skills

  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast paced and stressful environment

  • Ability to adhere to department policies and standards utilizing best practices

  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and composure when challenged

  • Ability to function autonomously and as a team member in a multidisciplinary team

  • Ability to train by presenting concepts and demonstrating tasks

  • Ability to see and hear clearly (including with correction)

  • Demonstrate superb hand washing and sanitizing practices

  •             Demonstrate the ability to follow department specific engineering, work practice controls and work area safety precautions
