This position is located in Medicine Care Line, Lebanon VA Medical Center (LVAMC), Lebanon, Pennsylvania. This position is responsible for providing a broad range of Neurology services to Veterans receiving care at the VAMC. Duties and responsibilities are carried out throughout the Medical Center. The Physician follows established guidelines, ethics, and policies and protocols of the Neurology Service, SVAMC, Department of VHA, and the profession. Each Neurologist functions as a cooperative and collegial team member with the entire staff.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF ASSIGNED DUTIES:
Primary duties are to perform full general neurological examinations on established or newly consulted patients in the Neurology clinics, inpatient wards or Emergency Department for signs or symptoms of neurologic dysfunction.
Responsibilities will include expanded use of clinical video telehealth (CVT)/electronic consultation (eConsult) to improve access to neurological care as well as increased use of Specialty Care Access Network-Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (SCAN-ECHO) to foster education and improve care.
The Neurologist will perform indicated services for conditions in both in-patient and out-patient clinical settings, including telemedicine. Performs full neurological exams and supervises Neurology residents and medical students throughout LVAMC.
Initiates changes in the system for delivering care based on evidence based medicine research and /or studies. Assesses, plans, implements, coordinates and evaluates educational programs.
Teaches effectively and creatively and provides guidance to others involved in the delivery of the educational program.
The Neurologist works within her or his privileges at all times.The Neurologist is expected to maintain current knowledge and skills. She or he must be able to deliver interventions throughout the full spectrum of renal care; i.e. s/he is expected to maintain good diagnostic and therapeutic acumen.
The staff Neurologist exercises corporate citizenship by serving as leader and/or active member on Medical Center committees as requested.
The staff Neurologist provides expanded access to services via off normal tour or on call periods.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. (call required)

Citizenship. Citizen of the United States. (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with section A, chapter 3, paragraph 3g, this part.)
Education. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
1. Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, or
2. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
3. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant.
Licensure and Registration. Physicians must possess a current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
Residency Training. Physicians must have completed residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA Physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are:
1. Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA), in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or
2. Other residencies or their equivalents which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training.
English Language Proficiency. Physicians appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
PHYSICIAN STAFF REQUIREMENTS
Staff Physician. None beyond the basic requirements. The individual must qualify to perform duties as a physician, have completed an accredited residency and/or possess experience which has qualified the individual to perform general duties and some specialized functions and procedures without supervision. Staff physicians may also include attendings who train physician residents assigned in facilities with residency training programs, and consultants who are capable of giving authoritative views and opinions on subjects in their field of medicine.
Preferred Experience: Board Certification in Neurology.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: Position requires manual dexterity, standing for long periods, bending, stooping and ability to position patients.
