The Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospitalin Columbia, Missouri is recruiting for a full-time Hematologist/Oncologist. TheStaff Physician provides comprehensive care for patients who have illnesses within the scope of general hematology/oncology. In addition to patient care, the physician may have responsibilities in other areas such as education and research. The physician is responsible for providing primary, secondary and tertiary care in both hospitalized and outpatient settings, identifying patients' health problems and designing diagnostic and therapeutic plans to meet these needs. Responsible for coordinating activities of other health service personnel, resolving problems affecting patient care and providing appropriate education for the patient and/or family members regarding the patient's illness and its management. The Staff Physician is responsible for teaching house staff, medical students and other health professionals during ward rounds, clinics and in conferences and providing supervisory control and professional direction for specialized diagnostic units in their field of expertise.

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
(1) Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, or
(2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
(3) For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1)or(2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECEMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECEMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
Must have completed residency training or its equivalent approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA Physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to beboard certified for faculty status.) Approved residences are:
(1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Accreditation Council for Grate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA), in the list published for year the residency was completed, or
(2) Other residences or their equivalents which the local Professional Standard Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training.
